China) according to the instructions. Briefly, 2–4-dinitrophenylhydrazine was specifically reacted with pyruvate to produce a red color at acid condition. Lactate was oxidized by lactate dehydrogenase to generate a product which interacted with a tetrazolium salt WST-8 dye to form a colorimetric (450 nm) product. Free fatty acids (FFA) were measured by a coupled enzymatic reaction system (ACS-ACOD Method). First, acyl CoA synthetase (ACS) catalyzed fatty acid acylation of coenzyme A. Next, the acyl-CoA product was oxidized by acyl CoA oxidase (ACOD), producing hydrogen peroxide which reacted with color agent. Triglycerides were detected with GPO/PAP (glycerol phosphate oxidase/ peroxidase and hydrogen peroxide) method. Glucose was oxidized by glucose oxidase into D-gluconic acid and hydrogen peroxide, which was detected with a highly specific colorimetric probe. Under the presence of concentrated sulfuric acid, glycogen was dehydrated to furfural derivatives and the furfural derivatives could form blue compound with anthracenone.
